This picture of the crater Psyche on near-Earth asteroid 433 Eros was produced from images taken by NEAR-Shoemaker on 10 September 2000 from an orbital distance of 100 km. Psyche is about 5 km in diameter and is centered at 32. N, 95. W. Small craters and boulders can be seen inside the crater. Note that the largest boulder and many of the other boulders are not in the deepest part of the crater where they would be expected to roll, but are higher up the left wall of the crater. This may be due to Eros' elongated shape, which results in a situation in which the gravitational low points are not at the bottom of many craters. The contrast between the bright and dark areas is apparent, as are striations within the crater. North is roughly at 9:00. (NEAR Eros psyche_mos)
