For most of Australia the eclipse was a partial one but is annular along a narrow track which passed just south of Geraldton in Western Australia, through Tennant Creek in the Northern Territory, Burketown in northern Queensland, and Cooktown on the coast of Queensland. This path of annularity passed south of the Learmonth Solar Observatory (114E, 22S) located in Western Australia and jointly operated by IPS Radio and Space Services and the US Air Force. For this observatory the eclipse reached its maximum extent of 0.82 at 0741 UT (Australian Eastern Summer Time of 6:41pm).
